About The Colorado School of Clinical Herbalism
CSCH offers Fundamentals, Advanced, and Clinical training in Western Herbalism, Integrated Nutrition, Field Botany, Aromatherapy, and Flower Essences in the Vitalist tradition. The Colorado School of Clinical Herbalism was founded as The North American Institute of Medical Herbalism in 2003 by Paul Bergner. Our current directors are John Whiteman and Lindy Reinhardt. Our school is located in the heart of Lafayette, Colorado, a botanically-rich area where the Rocky Mountains meet the Great Plains. We are approved and regulated by the Colorado Department of Higher Education, Private Occupational School Board, and we are a Member School of the American Herbalists Guild.
CSCH also operates the CSCH Clinic, a sliding-scale holistic center for Vitalist health education in Boulder County, Colorado.
Paul Bergner
Paul Bergner, the Founder of NAIMH (CSCH’s predecessor school) defines Vitalism as a clinical strategy based on the principle that Life, Nature, and the Great Spirit from which they arise are fully present in all the tissues of the body, and also in the psyche, the spiritual heart, and the soul – sustaining life and health, providing momentum for personal evolution on all levels and for the fulfillment of one’s highest purpose in social and spiritual life.
Vitalist Practitioners employ clinical strategies and methods which support this life power through:
- The encouragement of nourishment
- Digestion
- Rest
- Appropriate activity
- Identification of purpose in personal life
- Connection with nature
- An active spiritual life
- Identification and removal of obstacles to cure on all levels
- And avoidance of methods which suppress or distort life processes.
At the Colorado School of Clinical Herbalism [CSCH], we are continually developing our ability to be inclusive, respectful, and educated on how to move beyond all -isms that we, as individuals and collectively, may unintentionally harbor. Other programs don’t provide the intensive, practical, and science-based curriculum we offer at Colorado School of Clinical Herbalism. We are an approved school educator by the State of Colorado’s Division of Private Occupational Schools (DPOS) and a Member School of the American Herbalists Guild.
