THE FULL CERTIFICATE PATH

The Medical Herbalism Path

The CSCH certificate path is for adults who want a structured, rigorous education in Western herbalism, integrated nutrition, materia medica, field botany, and clinical practice in the Vitalist tradition. Begin with Fundamentals online or in-person, then continue into deeper levels of study as your readiness and goals develop.

A demanding path that deeply rewards those who complete it

Structured Study
Guided sequence, assignments, faculty support and a clear path from Fundamentals to Advanced, and Clinic.
Clinical Depth
Serious clinical herbalism education, not casual tips, loose remedy lists, or a weekend introduction to herbs.
Time Commitment
Fundamentals is a 9 month program. Online students should plan for 10 to 15 hours of learning and homework each week. In-person students should expect 10-20 hours in weekly classes, monthly Saturdays, and additional independent study time.
Format Comparison
Online fits self-directed adults who can stay on track with a structured 9 month program. In-person fits local and regional learners who want classroom, field, and cohort-based learning in Lafayette, Colorado.
Tuition Commitment
The Fundamentals Program is a meaningful investment. Detailed tuition information is available on the Online and In-Person Certificate pages so you can review the cost in the context of each format.

Choose the format that matches how you learn

Both paths lead into the same certificate ladder. The question is not which one is better. The question is which format fits your life, learning style, and capacity for disciplined study.

Online Fundamentals

For self-directed adults who need flexibility and can stay engaged with a structured 9 month program. You move through sequential modules with cohort pacing, mentor support, live zoom classes, a community of like-minded learners, and a real weekly study load, while being flexible enough to be able to travel and keep up with life and work demands.  Online brings the same curriculum and depth as the in-person program.

In-Person Fundamentals

For local and regional learners who want classroom learning in Lafayette, Colorado, field botany, hands-on practice, and a cohort they can learn beside each week. This path is built for students who want in-person faculty contact, place-based study, weekly rhythm with a like-minded herbal community.

Several levels of depth, choose your path

The certificate path is a staged education. Each level is its own program that builds on the one before it, moving from foundational language and plant knowledge into advanced therapeutic thinking, supervised practice, and final client-facing integrative clinical work.

FUNDAMENTALS

Start here. Build the foundation in Vitalist Western herbalism, body systems, materia medica, herbal safety, nutrition, botany, flower essences, and practical plant work. Most students begin here, whether they are enthusiastic beginners or experienced self-taught learners who need a supportive structure.

ADVANCED

Go deeper. Deepen into clinical thinking, therapeutic strategy, pathology, advanced materia medica, pharmacology, clinical nutrition, therapeutics, formulation, chronic disease, and assessment skills once the foundation is in place.  Think of it like learning a language as you become more fluent in conversation and fluency.

CLINIC

Supervised practice. Apply what you have learned through client work, case review, scope and safety, formulation, medicine making, referral decisions, and senior-faculty feedback on client cases and formulations.
