Easy Homemade Herbal Gift Ideas

Herbal Gifts

By Jill Cornelius, CH

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner! Herbal bath products make wonderful gifts, and encourage others to take time to relax and pamper themselves a little bit.  They are pretty quick and easy too!

Lavender Bath Salts

I definitely use a “folk style” method for making these little treats, so no measuring for me.  Items you will need:

  • One 8 oz. Ball or Kerr jam/jelly jar
  • Epsom Salt
  • Lavender Essential Oil
  • Dried Lavender

Fill your jar about ¾ full with Epsom salt.  Then pour the “measured” Epsom salt into a small bowl and add a few drops of essential oil according to your scent preference.  Mix the salt around to evenly disperse the scent.  Next, pour the salt back into the jar and top with dried herb to fill the rest of the jar.  Cap the jar, tie some ribbon or raffia around it and you’re done!  This makes enough for one or two healing baths.

Brown Sugar & Cinnamon Body Scrub

  • Two or three 4 oz. Ball or Kerr jam/jelly jars
  • ¾ – 1 cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup raw sugar
  • ¼ – ¾ cup Jojoba oil and/or liquid Coconut oil (per your consistency preference)
  • 1 tsp. Cinnamon powder (optional)
  • Cinnamon and/or Clove essential oils (3 or more drops per your preference)
  • 1 tsp. dried Orange peel (chopped finely) – optional

First, combine brown and raw sugars in a medium size bowl. Start with ¾ cup of brown sugar, adding more later if needed.  Next, add your oils ¼ cup at a time, mixing thoroughly.  Keep adding oils until you reach the consistency you are looking for.  I personally have found that the less soupy the mixture is, the better. Finally, add the essential oils, Orange peel and Cinnamon, and mix thoroughly.  Cap the jars, and decorate.  Depending on how much sugar and oil you use, this should make enough for two or three 4 oz. gifts.
