Classes meet Tuesday evenings, 6-9 pm, over a span of 21 weeks, with one 6-hour workshop/lab on Saturday, July 22. The last four weeks of the course are devoted to guided and graded Independent Study Projects including Case Studies, Research Review, and Creative Projects. This course includes a total of 51 lecture hours and 49 lab hours.

The Aromatherapy 100 course is designed to provide an introduction to the basic science and art of aromatherapy and essential oils for the beginning to intermediate student. The course includes both classroom lectures and hands-on experience, along with a variety of lecture formats and labs. Students will learn the history and chemistry of essential oils, EO Materia Medica, blending / formulation, product creation, and basic clinical skills for the practicing aromatherapist. The course also includes a basic introduction to the anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology of the relevant body systems. This 100-hour course qualifies as a Foundation Level School for the Alliance of International Aromatherapists, and prepares the student for further study in the field.

Meet the Instructors

Linda Byington, Registered Aromatherapist

linda-byingtonLinda Byington, Registered Aromatherapist, is the founder of Elemental Aromas, LLC. Her interest in Aromatherapy and healing modalities began in 1990. She studied Aromatherapy with various teachers including Shirley Price, Jeanne Rose, Michael Scholes, Sylla Sheppard-Hanger, and Robert Tisserand. Coursework covered includes history, production, distillation, chemistry, anatomy, physiological and emotional effects, blending, administration, safety, case taking, and ethics. In 2003 she became a Registered Aromatherapist (RA) through the Aromatherapy Registration Council. Linda then received a Diploma in Aromatherapy, with Honors, from the nationally accredited American College of Healthcare Sciences. Her studies included an honors research paper entitled “Aromatherapy in Pregnancy: Applications and Safety.” Linda currently lectures on various aromatherapy topics for healthcare professionals and the general public, including workshops on the creation of personalized aromatherapy products. She writes articles for newsletters and blogs, and was co-editor for the International Journal of Professional Holistic Aromatherapy. Linda is a member of the Alliance of International Aromatherapists and Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals, and was a Regional Director for the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy.
